Mother of the year!

Every other Tuesday Grace attends a "Faith in God" activity at the church. It's for the girls ages 8-11. They get together and make goals and have activities. She really enjoys it. This week they got done with their activity early so the girls were just running around in the gym. Appearantly, Grace was racing some of the other girls from one end of the gym to the other and slipped because she was wearing flip flops. She reach out for the wall to stop herself from hitting it and bent her wrist back. My friend LaRae brought her home and explained what happened. Grace could wiggle her fingers and roll her wrist without too much problems so we (Mike, me, Julie and Micah) felt that it was probably bruised or sprained. I sent her to school the next day and the next day and the next (count 'em....that's three days). I even made her do a cartwheel the day that she was supposed to have gymnastics to make sure that she really couldn't participate. She was still really "babying" her arm after THREE days so both Mike and Micah (he is our friend who is a flight doctor) said that I should probably take her into the doctor for an x-ray. So, on Friday after school I took her in. They took the film and WHAT???? A buckle fracture of the radius and ulna. I am probably the best mom on the planet! I made the poor girl walk around with a broken arm for three days. She was super excited to get a cast though.

I probably would have handled the situation the same way you did. Sometimes it's impossible to know what to do. You don't want to be the paranoid mom who takes their child into the doctor over every little thing.

Glad she likes Activity Days. I'm one of the leaders in our ward and really enjoy working with the girls.

Go figure! That's insane. Don't feel bad it could happen to anyone. Grace is such a pretty girl!

I love it! That's a great story.

A boy in our ward just walked around on a broken leg for days before he saw a doctor. It just happens!

What fun color for a cast! So much better than the plaster of paris (sp?) that I had to wear...and better colors too!

Three days?! You are an awful Mom. Just kidding! Grace is just tough and played it all off well. Sounds like the excitement never ends in your life.

My friend did that except she waited longer and they had to rebreak it and reset it! Every time I take the kids (or me) in it's nothing and when I don't it's something! Murphy's Law!

I remember Nic walking around with a broken or shattered knee cap for a couple of days before we got to the Dr. But when he broke his arm I went right in. So I think I redeemed myself. KIDS......?

I love you. I love that you and I are just alike in our no-nonsense mothering. I know I'm gonna do something like that someday, and THIS experience is going to give me comfort. So thank you...in the future!

That's crazy...Todd JUST (no really, like 5 minutes ago) told me our nephew broke his arm and his parents were also telling him to toughen up and stop being a baby before they finally took him in! So, no worries, you truly ARE Mother of the year! I would only think it was broken if it was totally deformed or I could SEE the bone! :)

I don't know anyone who has a kid with a broken bone who took that child in right away to get it x-ray'd. No one. YOu just have to wait and see with those things.

That's OK- my mom let my brother walk around with a broken wrist and NEVER took him in. When he was an adult, he had to have it rebroken and re-set. See, there are worse moms than you!hee-hee. Oh, and I let Lindsey walk around with lice for 3 weeks before I figured out it wasn't just really bad dandruff- so- yeah. This stuff happens.

Ahhh! Poor girl! Why don't kids come with a manual, how are you supposed to know these things??? Especially with access to so many doc types! Crazy! Tell I love her and she looks GREAT in a cast!

Kids are tough. Its us adults that can't even more when we have a broken bone. I hope she heals quickly.

If I were you, surrounded by some many medical people, I would find someone else to be blame :)

Unless it was bulging or split to the bone I would have been the same way. Luckily kids are hearty and forgiving:0)I probably would have cried like a baby.

I love that kid Grace. I miss her too. I am not surprised that she is super tough! And by the way I was already going to nominate you for mother of the year after reading the last post! Rich

That is so something that I would do, I just say, "shake it off, throw some dirt on, you are fine"! I have been lucky that everything I have ignored turned out to be fine.
If it makes you feel any better my mom did the same thing to me when I was in kindergarten and I turned out fine, no permanent damage:)

She is so strong! I would have thought the same thing at first if I were you, though!

So I think we need to phone date. Sametime every week or so. Maybe that way we can actually catch each other. Remember our friday dates with Grace. Good times...so long ago.

I can have Carissa tell you about the time we left her at the pool after Blake's 16th birthday surprise party. Will that make you feel better? Every real mother has had a time in her life that is just like that. She is happy she has a cast, so no worries.
